You have what you need now, other things will come as you go along.
Start where you are, you don’t have to wait for the perfect time. Do you think that companies like Coca-Cola, IBM, General Motors and Nike got to where they are by waiting for the perfect time? There is never a perfect time. You need to start where you are and with what you have. Perhaps this sounds a little in your face, but there are several reasons this needs to be to facilitate change.
I have been guilty of it, maybe you have, too. We let doubt keep us back from doing the things we dream of and having…that fantastic spouse, that great new company to build, that yacht we always wanted, that dream home. Have you ever had doubts about how you would ever have any of these things? I know I have. I sometimes wonder where I would be if I didn’t let the demon of doubt creep in from time to time. Fast forward, several years. I now live in a wonderful, lakefront home, have a wife that anyone would envy, have the yacht, the Jaguars and I feel blessed to be able to do what I love each and every single day. Always remember your worst day is someone else’s dream life, there is always someone else whose starting point is where you used to be.
When would NOW be a good time?Tony Robbins
Ultimately, it comes down to the best two days of your life (and they can be the same day)! Those are the days you decide you want something better, and the day you decide to do something about it. Now this may sound simplistic, and it is, but it can also be very difficult. In fact, millions go through life wondering what it would be life to have something different. Tony Robbins has been one of my favorite motivational speakers of all time. I started listening to his talks since the mid-nineties. One phrase of his has always stuck with me over the years. “When would NOW be a good time?” We frequently overthink things and get caught up in analysis paralysis and we keep rehearing excuses in our heads as to why we can’t do things to the extent we do nothing. Then we have the audacity to complain about the situation we have created for ourselves. The funny thing about complaining; 80% really don’t want to hear it and the other 20% are glad you have problems to make them feel better about themselves.
So what do we do about it?
Sometimes it is as simple as figuring out why we want to make a change. When the pain of where we are is greater than the fear of change, then change happens. We all want something better and we know we should do something about it. But only when ‘should’ turns to ‘must’ then we open the door to possibilities and only then do we become unstoppable. You have skills you have acquired over time, and you will figure out the skills you will identify and need to acquire as you go along. When it becomes important (and here’s a hint, it is important) you will find a way. I was working an average of 60 hours a week in IT when I went back to school to get my Master’s degree. It was hard, but certainly worth it for me. Perhaps for you, it is doing odd jobs to get some seed money to buy something to resell at a higher price, or create an online business (contact me, I can help you with lots of ideas). In all cases, when you finally decide you are destined for better, you will find a way. Just take that one first step, then the next and the next. No matter how small the steps, you will eventually get there if you don’t give up.
I am sure you have seen someone who started with of nothing became something to be admired. Let me share an example of someone who had little hope. Jon Morrow was in a terrible automobile accident, leaving him paralyzed from the neck down. He was told there wasn’t much anyone could do for him nor that he could do. But using the power of his mind, he decided he would become a writer, a blogger on the internet. He started writing about how others could actually make a living writing on topics they knew about. His following grew to the point where he could not only pay over a hundred thousand dollars in medical care every year, he now lives in an ocean-front condo in Mazatlán, Mexico where he continues to write. If someone whose future originally seemed as bleak as Jon Morrow can do what he loves, starting from nothing, what more could you or I do?
Commit to that ideal today
Take one step towards creating the life that you have been dreaming of for a while. You don’t have to know all the ins and outs, but you do need to make a choice. You can either stay where you are and continue to complain, or you can do something about it. Remember, “When would NOW be a good time?” Start small, you can figure out the details as you go along. Surround yourself with others who are successful and supportive. The best advice is to ignore the nay-sayers.
I can help you get a start on developing your goals and creating a roadmap to your success. You just have to decide today is the day. I am not here to tell you what to do, but I can be your guide and help you avoid the pitfalls with starting a new business. Just take that first step. It will take some work and some will give up, but I have to tell you, being miserable takes a whole lot more work than being happy. The work to build your dream life is certainly worth it.
